Acquire the professional skills and knowledge you need to apply for registration as a gasfitter with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.
During this programme, you will gain professional skills and knowledge in how to use and maintain gasfitting hand tools and trade equipment as well as how to install, secure and maintain domestic and commercial gas systems, appliances, fittings and structures.
Trained in best practice standards, you will learn essential gasfitting skills such as how to excavate and trench, remove asbestos products, solder metal joints and apply sealants to joints, weld steel sheet and tube and design and construct sheet metal plumbing requirements.
This qualification is delivered concurrently with the National Certificate in Plumbing and forms part of the requirements for a registered gasfitter.
You must be able to work in a busy trades-related environment.
Credit recognition is available for this programme; if you have related skills, knowledge and/or experience, it may count towards part or even all of the qualification.

To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 171 credits. Please browse the guide below to view the course options currently available within this qualification.
To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.
- 36 NCEA credits at Level 1 including 12 credits in English. Or the Certificate in Pre Trade Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying Level 2.
Evidence of literacy, numeracy and an ability to study at the appropriate level. This can be through study, work and/or life experience. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.
A current training agreement and employment in the industry.
If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, us for an assessment.
Note: If you have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements you are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills.

Due to Immigration New Zealand visa requirements international students are ineligible to enrol in this national certificate.
When you graduate with this qualification you can apply for registration as a gasfitter with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. With registration dependent on you meeting Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB) requirements. Career options include working for a private gasfitting organisation or you may like to consider becoming an independent contractor.
With this qualification you are eligible to apply to sit examinations set by the Board of Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers to become a registered gasfitter.
