To introduce students to a range of building materials, components and finishes commonly used in residential scaled buildings.

Learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the properties and applications for a range of finishing materials, glass, mirrors, furniture and hardware in common use within residential scaled buildings.
  • Measure quantities, calculate costings, and produce written schedules and specifications for a range of selected materials and finishes within the interior design field.
  • Explore, critically assess, analyse and otherwise interpret a client brief for a selected building component (furniture, joinery etc).
  • Research, source and assess technological and material information and sustainability issues relevant to the manufacturing, installation and finishing processes from manufacturers and suppliers, technical libraries and digital information systems.
