To introduce students to the fundamental role of colour within the interior design process and the realisation of colour schemes through the application of painting systems.

Learning outcomes

  • Analyse colour principles and the contextual application of colour theory within a 3D environment and create effective colour concepts and schemes for interior and exterior environments.
  • Investigate the processes necessary for the preparation of various substrates to receive a coating system and select an appropriate paint system and paint specification for specific applications.
  • Relate health and safety obligations to all aspects of the products and processes/applications involved.
  • Interpret and follow a design brief, develop concept ideas through exploration, critical judgement, spatial analysis, and ergonomic principles and present client proposals for a residential project using appropriate visual and oral presentation methods.
  • Select and specify appropriate products, materials and finishes, and produce all necessary specifications and design documentation in a professional manner.
