Staff stand out at fun run

CPIT staff stood out at the Pegasus Fun Run and Walk last weekend with their bright t-shirts and high- vis vests attracting cheers from the crowd. The 60-strong team took on the tough 10 kilometre track through bush in support of sport recovery in Canterbury.

CPIT routinely sponsors a group of staff to participate in the annual City to Surf marathon, however this event was cancelled due to the earthquake so CPIT set about finding a new fitness challenge. “Everyone was really excited about the new event and we had a huge turnout,” said Lyn Russell from Human Resources.

The new event at Pegasus was popular with staff as a team building opportunity and as a chance to have some fun. “It was not so much about fitness as it was about camaraderie,” Russell said. CPIT sponsored the registration fee and also put on a barbeque and drinks for participants.

“It was enjoyable doing something as a staff group and although we didn’t win it was well worth it,” Paul Elmes, Head of School of Engineering and a fun run participant said.

Although the aches and pains are still lingering, CPIT is already planning the next energetic staff challenge.
