NZBS graduates among top winners at the NZ Radio Awards

On Thursday 10 May a number of New Zealand Broadcasting School alumni won big at the 2018 New Zealand Radio Awards in Auckland.

The awards acknowledged the hard work put in by people within all aspects of the radio industry, celebrating the on-air personalities, programming, news and sports coverage, promotions, creativity and production, sales and community involvement.


Best New Broadcaster On-Air award winner Shannon Redstall

NZBS graduates dominated one of the most sought-after awards with ‘Best Music Breakfast Show -Network’ won by ZM’s dynamic trio Fletch, Vaughan and Megan. Of the team who feature on and produce that show Vaughan Smith, Megan Papas, Caitlin Marett, James Johnston and Anna Henvest, are all NZBS alumni.

  • Best Show Producer - Emily Winstanley (The Mike Hosking Breakfast Show)
  • Best Video - Vaughan Smith and Tavis Hughes (ZM)
  • Best Music Feature - Reagan White and Stacey Wouters (The Rock)
  • The NZBS sponsored Best New Broadcaster On-Air award was won by Shannon Redstall (RadioLIVE) with Maja Burry (RNZ National) as a finalist
  • Best Sports Presenter - Martin Devlin (Radio Sport)
  • Best Sports Story Team Coverage - Jason Winstanley (Newstalk ZB)
  • Best Client Promotion Network - Rob Dickey (The Edge)
  • Best Client Promotion Single Market - Chris Goodyear (More FM)
  • Best Digital Content - Trinette Sands and Lucy Carthew (ZM)
  • Best Marketing Campaign - Alistair Cockburn (ZM)
  • Best Single Market Promotion - Mitchell Fulton (The Edge Southland)
  • Best Daily or Weekly Feature - Simon Morton (RNZ National)
  • Best Station Trailer - Alistair Cockburn (ZM)
  • The “Blackie” Award - Tom McKenzie (The Edge)

NZ Radio Awards Chairman, Jana Rangooni said, “it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the great talent in our industry not just those who won tonight and especially pleasing to have the whole New Zealand radio industry back together with RNZ coming back into the awards this year”.
